Abstract:
Features in this dataset represent segments of public highways that are maintained by and under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Department of Transportation. These highways consist of Interstates, US Highways, and State Highways. Features are represented by polyline (linear) geographic shapes. |
Metadata elements shown with blue text are defined in the Federal Geographic Data Committee's (FGDC) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM). Elements shown with green text are defined in the ESRI Profile of the CSDGM. Elements shown with a green asterisk (*) will be automatically updated by ArcCatalog. ArcCatalog adds hints indicating which FGDC elements are mandatory; these are shown with gray text.
Features in this dataset represent segments of public highways that are maintained by and under the jurisdiction of the Colorado Department of Transportation. These highways consist of Interstates, US Highways, and State Highways. Features are represented by polyline (linear) geographic shapes.
Used for general reference, geoprocessing, and cartography.
This dataset is based on the CDOT Unified Linear Referencing System

The number designating the State Route, including a section (log) identifier designated by a letter for the State database.
Beginning reference point for the highway segment, measured in miles.
Ending reference point for the highway segment, measured in miles.
Length of the highway segment, in miles, carried to three decimal places.
The engineering district number that contains the highway segment.
CDOT Transportation Planning Region number that contains the highway segment.
The predominant width of the median, in whole feet, measured between the inside edges of the shoulders, excluding the shoulders, on the highway segment
Colorado Transportation Commission District number that contains the highway segment
Name of the incorporated city that contains the highway segment
City FIPS code
Name of the county that contains the highway segment
County FIPS code
The classification of the highway route sign.
Interstate
State Highway
United States route
National Highway System designation, indicating if the highway segment is part of the National Highway System
Condition of the road pavement for the primary direction (North or East)
Good
Fair
Poor
Indicator for the remaining surface life primary direction, measured in years.
The indexed value of the International Roughness Index. Lower values equal rougher roads.
A value used to calculate Remaining Service Life for rutting. A value of 100 indicates .15 inch or less rutting. A value of 50 is the threshold that indicates no more remaining service life. This occurs at an average rut depth of .55 inches.
The annual average daily traffic count for the highway segment, in both directions, representing an average 24-hour day in a year. (Total of all vehicles counted divided by 365.)
Estimate of average annual daily traffic count in 20 years for the highway segment
The calendar year (YYYY) in which the average daily traffic count was taken for the highway segment
Method of how the AADT was determined.
Estimated AADT based on traffic segment break
The Peak percent of AADT that is composed of trucks of all types, traveling along the highway segment. Measured in percentage.
The Off-Peak percent of AADT that is composed of trucks of all types, traveling along the highway segment. Measured in percentage.
The Average Daily Traffic count that consists of trucks on a single chassis, excluding pickups and vans. Measured as a count.
The Average Daily Traffic count that consists of trucks on multiple chassis (combined units), excluding pickups and vans. Measured as a count
The hourly traffic volume divided by the capacity of the highway segment.
The estimate of the hourly V/C ratio for 20 years from the base year
Vehicle miles traveled on this highway segment. Calculated by multiplying the Seg_Length by the AADT
The speed limit posted for the highway segment. Measured in miles per hour.
Type of material used in the construction of the surface of the highway segment for the primary direction of traffic as defined by FWHA.
Dominant type of terrain through which the road passes
Flat terrain
Rolling terrain
Mountainous terrain
Number of travel lanes.
Travel lane width. Measured in feet.
Description of the highway segment.
Boolean value for a divided highway
The surface type of the Right Outside Shoulder for the highway segment
Local name given to a segment of highway
An indication of the type of access control assigned to a segment of road by Staff Right of Way as defined by FHWA
An indication of the category of the usage of the segment of road, as defined by FHWA, and is broken down between rural and urban areas
A classification of the type of median on the highway segment
Primary outside shoulder width
